What we liked
  • Serious heft presses patties thin for real lacy-edged crust
  • Flat edge smashes evenly — no thick centers
  • Pre-seasoned cast iron from a trusted brand at an impulse price
What we didn't
  • Handle gets hot sitting near the griddle — grab a towel
  • Needs drying and a wipe of oil after washing or it rusts

A smash burger lives or dies on crust, and crust comes from maximum contact between meat and hot metal. This press delivers it: drop a loose ball of beef on a ripping-hot griddle, press once, hold ten seconds, and the patty spreads thin with craggy, lacy edges that crisp into pure Maillard goodness.

The weight does the work for you. At over two pounds of cast iron, you’re guiding the press, not muscling it, and the flat bottom means the patty comes out even edge to edge — no raw thick middle. It also moonlights beautifully for paninis, bacon, and keeping tortillas flat.

It’s cast iron, so cast iron rules apply: dry it after washing, hit it with a thin coat of oil, and it will outlive you. Skip the care and it rusts, and the handle gets legitimately hot when it sits next to the griddle, so keep a towel nearby.
