What we liked
  • Around eight bucks a bulb — cheapest way to smart-light a whole room
  • No hub needed: connects over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth out of the box
  • Alexa and Google voice control plus a huge scene and music-sync library
What we didn't
  • 800 lumens each is dim for a main room light — think accent, not overhead
  • App gets flaky on 5GHz-only networks; it wants a proper 2.4GHz band

The Govee 4-pack is the math that sells itself: you can color-light an entire bedroom for less than a single bulb from the premium brands. Setup is genuinely painless — screw them in, pair over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, and you’re picking scenes inside five minutes. No hub, no bridge, no extra box on your router.

The app is the fun part and the frustrating part. It’s loaded — music sync, DIY scenes, schedules, group control — and Alexa and Google voice commands work reliably once paired. But it’s picky about networks: if your router only broadcasts 5GHz, expect dropped connections and pairing headaches until you enable a 2.4GHz band.

Brightness is the honest tradeoff. At 800 lumens each, these are mood-makers, not room-lighters — four of them together do the job of one decent overhead. For accent lighting, gaming setups, and behind-the-TV glow, nothing touches this per-bulb price.
