What we didn't
- Costs noticeably more than the plastic disc-style sunset lamps
- Rotating-filter effects are less sharp than a fixed-lens projection
Every other sunset lamp looks like a webcam on a stick. The Mubarek looks like something you bought at a design store — a glass crystal cube on a wooden base that earns its shelf space even when it’s off. That alone justifies the step up from the plastic competition for a lot of rooms.
Inside, a rotating filter system gives you three distinct moods: a warm sunset wash, a rippling ocean effect that moves across the ceiling, and a green-and-purple aurora mode. The remote handles everything, and the one-hour timer makes it a genuinely good wind-down light — set it as you get into bed and it takes itself off duty.
The trade-off for that variety is sharpness. Because the effects come from a moving filter rather than a fixed lens, the edges are softer and more diffuse than a dedicated sunset disc. If your goal is a crisp, photographic sun circle for pictures, a fixed-lens lamp wins. If your goal is a room that feels like a place you want to be, this is the one.
