Elgato Facecam MK.2

Most webcams are an afterthought — a tiny sensor, a plastic lens, and autofocus that treats your face like a puzzle it keeps re-solving. The Facecam MK.2 is Elgato’s answer for people who care how they look on stream: a Sony sensor behind a fixed-focus f/2.4 prime, pushing uncompressed 1080p at 60fps. The result is footage that looks closer to a mirrorless camera than anything else that clips to a monitor.

The real weapon is Camera Hub, Elgato’s software. It exposes the controls webcams normally hide — ISO, shutter speed, white balance, saturation — and saves them to the camera’s onboard memory, so your look survives a reboot or a PC swap. Dial it in once and it just works, in OBS, Discord, whatever. The fixed-focus lens sounds like a compromise until you realize it never hunts, never pulses, and keeps you sharp at normal desk distance forever.

The honest caveats: there’s no microphone at all — Elgato assumes, correctly, that its buyers already own a real mic. And like every small-sensor camera, it earns its clean image with light. Give it a key light and it punches absurdly above its size; sit it in a dim room and the noise creeps in. If you’re not willing to light your face, buy a cheaper webcam and spend the difference on a lamp.
